Archie's Adoption Story & DNA test results!

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Most of us pet parents are interested in learning more about our pets, right?

Since adopting Archie, I've been super curious as to which breeds he is.

(Archie's Results & how to get $50 OFF EMBARK DNA Test!)

When we first learned about him, I was actively searching for a pup to adopt. I was following many rescues and shelters in our area for the right furbaby to apply for.

One day as I was scrolling through Facebook, a post came up from a rescue about how they had just saved a litter of 5 puppies. The mom had passed and they didn't have much more information besides that they were thinking the puppies were only 4 days old. 4 DAYS OLD! They were tiny tiny (see below!)

The rescue shared that the mom was a chihuahua and they weren't sure of who their dad dog was. The foster mom bottle fed the puppies and posted a weekly update. They named them adorable names like Chunky Monkey, Cookie Dough, & Sherbet and called them The Ice Cream Gang. Unfortunately, Pistachio didn't make it, but the rest were getting stronger day by day.

It felt like torture waiting for them to be old enough to put an application in to try and adopt one of them.

Finally around 7 weeks of age they were accepting applications. We had to choose which one to apply for before even meeting them; it was such a hard choice...I wanted them all! We ended up applying for Chunky Monkey, but mentioned we were open to any of them. My husband and I then crossed our fingers and knew if it was meant to be it would be. We knew from the rescue that there were many many applicants and for Chunky Monkey especially since he had the most unique colors out of the whole litter.

A week or so later we got the call that we were chosen and could head over to meet Chunky Monkey and Moosetracks. I was over the moon excited! We spent about an hour at the rescue playing with them and learning about them, & bonding. Moosetracks was much more reserved and took a long time to come out of his shell. Chunky Monkey was much more adventurous and quicker to come around and show us his little spunky attitude.

I fell in love with both of them. So then it was the choice, which one is the right fit? My husband said that if we chose Moosetracks he felt that he would solely be my dog because he was more timid and shy and chihuahua's tend to lean towards one person. He said that Chunky Monkey seemed more open to the both of us. So...we chose Chunky Monkey....and then we had to wait another 2 weeks before he was old enough for us to bring him home.

On our car ride (1.5hrs) back home that day, we brainstormed on names, what we needed to buy for our newest addition, and talked about how our first visit went. Our top name ended up being Archibald "Archie" Henderson Kola. Archibald Henderson is a big name in the Marine Corps and my husband and I thought it was fitting for our family. We couldn't wait to bring him home!

That was such a fun day and there hasn't been a dull moment since!

He's the best little adventure buddy!

Since adopting him we have been curious as to which breeds he was since he has too long of legs to be a chihuahua, and his colors are so unique, etc. We decided to do the Embark DNA test on him, & without further ado...here were the results!

They classified "Supermutt" as Miniature Pinscher, Dachshund, & Pekingese.

If you are interested in finding out your pet's breed for fun, email me alyssamauzerkola@gmail.com for a code to get $50 OFF the DNA kit! You can also choose to add on the Health kit, which I am definitely interested in doing to find out of any genetic health issues that I should be aware of for the future. You also get a little family tree diagram which I found to be super cute :)

Another really cool bonus of Embark is that along with the DNA results, you also get to check out close relatives of your pup. I know someone that found out they had their dog's "cousin" living in the same city...how fun!!

I hope you enjoyed a condensed version of Archie's adoption story and find his DNA results interesting, we sure did! Be sure to share your dog's results with me, I would love to know!
