Are you ready to "up" your Pet Parent Game?

As pet parents we always want the best for our furbabies.

I want to share a list of ideas on ways you can improve your pet's health & well being.

I challenge you to set one goal each month...just ONE. This will help to make it both feasible and help keep you accountable.

  • Daily Walks ~ at least 20-30min each. Twice per day.

  • Feed Fresh Whole Foods ~ at least 3x per week.

This is especially important if you feed kibble which is highly processed. Add in some fresh whole foods so your pet is getting vitamins and minerals from pure source.

WHOLE FOOD IDEAS:

salmon, veggies (carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, spinach) , fruits (tomatoes, avocado, strawberries, blueberries) or goat milk

  • Encourage Instinctual Behaviors ~ at least 1-2x per week.

What are Instinctual Behaviors & how to encourage them:

Rooting (snuffle mats work great for this), chewing (raw marrow bones, antlers, bully sticks) , digging (this one could be problematic & messy, BUT maybe try getting kiddie pool and fille with some dirt, sand, water, or toys to dig through), and sniffing around (perfect on walks)

  • Provide Bones to Chew ~ at least 2x per week. Good for mental stimulation & dental health. Raw Beef Marrow Bones, frozen turkey or duck necks for dogs. Frozen chicken necks for small dogs or cats.

  • Follow a Natural Flea & Tick Protocol ~ many options are available that are just as effective, but safer than the chemical alternatives.

  • Maintain a Chemical-Free Home & Yard ~ this is a big one for all members of the family. Have you thought about how cleaners and artificial fragrances (like those wall plug-ins) affect your whole family? Here's more on that HERE and swap options!

  • Follow a Natural Vaccination Protocol ~ look into titer testing & the risks of overvaccination on pets.

For example - My dog Archie had a titer test done at his 1 year appointment, his levels showed protection for AT LEAST 3 more years (at the 3 year mark, I will do another titer to see if he is still protected)!

By not vaccinating and instead doing a titer test, I've made sure Archie is protected, stopped over-vaccination risks, & saved myself $$$.

  • Food Rotation ~ regardless of the type of food you feed, rotation is very important. No food or recipe is perfect, so rotating between not only proteins but also brands is important for overall health.

I like to change the protein and/or bag of food each time or if that seems too daunting, you can shoot for every 2-3 months.

If you are interested in learning more about any of these topics, have questions, or have other suggestions for Pet Parents that you'd like to share...
